Desirable World War II Russian SVT 1938 Tokarev Sniper Rifle and Bayonet This is a model 1938 SVT semi-automatic rifle that was produced by the Ishevsk arsenal in 1940 that has been arsenal converted into a sniper rifle which is fitted with a straddle type top mount with a early 1940 dated Tokarev sniper scope. The tokarev rifles were manufactured through out WWII by both the Tula and Ishevsk arsenals. These earlier models saw limited success as they had a tendency to jam which was corrected in the 1940 SVT models. The top of the receiver has a very small "Arrow inside a Triangle" proof, [indicating Ishevsk arsenal] 1940r. It has the standard military hooded front sight and a tangent rear sight graduated 1-16 (100-1600 meters). It is fitted with the standard Russian hardwood stock with a correct WWII replacement handguard (slightly darker in color) and the perforated openings on the sides of the handguard. The stock is fitted with the correct short perforated metal forend typically used on the 1938 models. The end of the barrel is fitted with six slotted muzzle brake and the stock has the side mounted cleaning rod. The rear of the rifle receiver was modified to accept a WWII Russian style sniper scope mount, which is now fitted with a short WWII PU type sniper scope. The rear of the mount is stamped with the small markings of "AM138". The scope itself is marked on top with the "Russian Hammer and Sickle/No.2823/1940" . It is complete with a detachable 10 round box magazine cleaning rod and a set of post war leather lens caps and a Tokarev bayonet and scabbard. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition overall showing numerous handling marks and light pressure dents on the sides, with the handguard being darker than the stock and also showing minor handling marks. The scope and mount retain 75% of their blue finish with clear optics that are a little hazy.
