Important Max Kolb Antique Brass, Gold, and Silver Filigree Cigarette Case- Please take a look!
This is one very interesting and what we think, an important item. It is a cigarette case made from brass or bronze with silver filigree outlining the edges and with gold figures and highlights.. Furthermore, there is a map of the world engraved with the gold highlights of the zodiac signs, figures, and a lot of dogs (see below) racing around, and each country of Europe having a unique design encased in a shield. When opened, it reveals additional brass highlights and the words "Sicerat" and "Infantes" inside the cover. If you want a piece of fun, then translate these two words from German to English. A piece of fabric holds the cigarettes in the case with one piece of fabric missing on the other side. There is also a name inscribed on the inside on the lower part of the case of "Max Kolb Munchen" who was a fine art/jewelry designer in Munich during this time. Included are two pieces of paper that Max originated, dated 1933 detailing the meaning of the symbols and materials used for the making of the case. Two things stood out while I was reading these papers: One was the notation at the bottom stating that the box was sold to a Mr. ***** and he "was the first American who ordered something from me". The other thing I read was about the "devil dogs from hell" being featured in the case. That is when I stopped reading.
The case is heavy and well made. It measures 3 1/2" square and is in very good condition with no flaws except for that missing piece of fabric.
