Clinton George

A distinguished single page PPDS on large heavy laid paper, 18.5" x 11.25", heavily manuscripted on verso, with recto Partially Printed. Dated and signed on the "2nd day of December 1790". Boldly signed by George Clinton as "Geo Clinton" as governor of New York and witness, and co-signed by "Lewis A. Scott" as Secretary . Professionally restored to folds affecting a small amount of text, with light overall toning and faint handling marks. Small intact tear to signature archivally restored, else near fine. Accompanied by the stunning clay disc, 3.5" in diameter, with the raised relief of a giant sun peering over the mountains, with minor restoration to a crack. Original linen cord present.

A lovely large land patent for land in "the County of Montgomery and in the Township of Cicero …. Known on a map … by Lot number Eighty Nine, Containing Six Hundred Acres…". The verso of the document is extensively manuscripted and docketed, shown in part as:

"To all Christian people to whom these Prescints[sic] shall come greeting know ye that I , John Gage , of Fredericks town in the County of Dutch for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Pounds current money of the State of New York to me in hand paid will … claim … a certain tract of land situate lying and being in the county of Montgomery … distinguished by a map of the s'd township … containing six hundred acres …"

The document is signed by George Clinton in 1786 who later became our 4th VP under Jefferson and Madison, and was instrumental in the French Indian War. Presents extremely well and would be stunning framed.
