Engraved Hollis Bentley & Playfair 500 Nitro Express Double Rifle In 1810 Issac Hollis and Sons began business, in 1840 Bentley and Playfair was established and in 1911 the two companies amalgamated to form Hollis, Bentley and Playfair. The company specialized in high class sporting guns and double rifles for home and export. The company had a retail store in London, England and a factory in Birmingham, England. The company closed its doors in 1957 due to rising costs. This rifle features a nicely floral scroll engraved receiver with "HOLLIS BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR" in a banner on each side. The engraving pattern extends to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The barrels feature a ramped blade front sight and a three leaf (two folding, one fixed) express rear sight on a matte quarter rib. The leafs are marked "100", "200" and "300" and have gold inlaid sighting lines. The smooth concave rib ahead of the quarter rib is marked "HOLLIS BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR." The top of the right barrel at the breech end is marked "500 3" NITRO" and "REGULATED FOR 570 GRN BULLET" on the left. The barrels are equipped with ejectors. There is a sling swivel eye mounted on the under side of the barrels and on the stock. Double triggers, tang mounted automatic safety with silver "SAFE" and mounted with a extra fancy multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, cheek piece, solid rubber recoil pad and silver initial oval.
