Historic, Rare, and Exceptional Early DWM Model 1900 Cased Presentation Luger Pistol Inscribed to Graham H. Powell This is an excellent original example of a desirable early-production DWM Model 1900 Commercial Luger pistol that was ordered/presented to Graham H. Powell as indicated by the "Graham H. Powell" inscribed silver plate inlay in the top of the case lid and the "GHP" monogram on the chamber area of the pistol. In American Machinist, Volume 24 from May 16, 1901, "Grahame H. Powell [sic]" wrote an article titled "The Luger Automatic Pistol" about the operation and technical details of the Luger pistols. These pistols were the true first commercial contract Luger pistols produced by DWM and can be found in the 2000-19000 serial number range; This pistol is an earlier mid-production pistol. The top of the chamber area is engraved with the intertwined initials: "GHP" with golden fill. The front toggle has the standard "DWM" markings. Interestingly, this pistol is early enough that it does not have any commercial firing proofs. The majority of these pistols ended up on the U.S. market and had been stamped with the American Eagle crest over the chamber and the word "GERMANY" stamped somewhere else. However, this example is not stamped with either of those markings. This pistol has all the early desirable Luger features such as the short frame, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety and no stock lug. The example also has been fitted with the hold-open device. These early Lugers have a pre-war rust blue finish, straw colored small parts, and checkered walnut grips. It has the first pattern polished/unmarked lower safety area and is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number under the barrel and on the front of the frame and the last two digits of the serial number (54) stamped on the various smaller parts (trigger, side plate, barrel, recoil lug, and toggle train). This wonderful early Luger is complete with its original DWM black leatherette storage/carrying case with the previously noted inscription plate. Included in the case are two early wood base commercial magazines, a brass oiler/cleaning rod, a takedown pin punch, a small silver oiler in a leather pouch, a small tin of German vaseline as was originally supplied with the Luger, a takedown tool, and a horse hair cleaning brush. Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1900 BBL: 4 7/8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 6054 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The various smaller parts retain 85% of their straw colors overall. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checking on both sides with a small pressure dents on the lower right side. The case and lining are both in very fine condition with a nice leather cover with edge and corner wear and some minor scratches on top of the lid. The green felt lining shows minor wear, slight aging/fading of the colors, and still retains the correct imprints on the case dividers. The various accessories are all in excellent condition. This is an excellent early DWM Model 1900 cased presentation Luger.
