Book Details: This first edition volume is complete with its original dust jacket and has a piece of correspondence signed by the author, Henry Chapin, and tipped-in to the front free endpaper. The text is bound by blue cloth covered boards with the title and author's name emblazoned in black ink above a small decorative illustration on the front cover and spine.

This title recounts a version of the Johnny Appleseed folktale. The inside of the dust jacket offers details about the content of this volume: "Thousands of pioneers in the early half of the last century knew and loved Johnny Appleseed. It was he who sold them seed and sapling as they passed through Pittsburgh; and he who later in life cleared and planted orchard patches, in the service of a dream, as far west as Indiana. Many a legend and ballad clings round the name of this strange St. Francis of the wilderness who planted, but not for himself; who was received into the counsels of the Indians, and was believed to speak the language of the creatures of the wood."

Condition / Notes: The dust jacket has some small partial tears, chipping high points, and indications of minor soiling. The book itself, however, shows exceptionally well bearing only a typical range of age and wear indications. The boards are clean and show nicely. The binding is solid and intact, as are the hinges. The pages show some light toning though the text remains legible throughout the book. Chapin's signed letter shows some light toning and markings from where it was affixed to the page though it remains clear and bold.
