"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is an iconic work of American literature which some claim helped galvanize anti-slavery forces in the North just before the American Civil War. This version of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel is the first edition translated to Swedish, though it is unclear how Swedes in the late 19th century may have understood the context and content of this work depicting the harsh realities of slavery in America.
