Scarce H.V. Perry Rotary Three Barrel Percussion Rifle A nearly identical Perry rifle is part of the NRA Museum Collection and is pictured online in their exhibit of "Innovation, Oddities and Competition: Case 22-The Weird and the Wonderful." The NRA dates it to the 1870s. The only difference appears to be minor changes in the barrel markings and engraving, and even many of the engraving patterns are nearly identical. Perry was active from around 1850 into the 1880s. He first worked in Danville and then Fredonia before moving to Jamestown around 1865. and is known to have used this sweeping "perch belly" stock profile generally associated with New York gunmakers. The barrels are marked "H.V. PERRY./JAMESTOWN/N.Y." and "CAST STEEL" and are numbered 1 to 3 respectively. The various furniture has scroll engraving, and the patch boxes have star designs. Each barrel has its own dovetailed blade sight on a raised base, and the rear sight is threaded into the upper tang and has a notch and aperture. Provenance: Gillespie collection. Manufacturer: American Model: Half Stock BBL: 24 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 43 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: NSN Class: Antique Condition: Fine with mostly smooth brown patina, moderate pitting concentrated at the nipples, minor wear, and some light scratches and nicks. The stock is fine and has some hairline cracks in the wrist, streaks of stain, and mild wear. Mechanically fine. This is definitely an attractive, "weird and wonderful" rifle.
