Gwyn & Campbell Type II Civil War Carbine Around 8,200 "Union Rifles" were manufactured in 1863-64, and about half were this Second Type. They were based on the slightly earlier Cosmopolitan carbines also manufactured at E. Gwyn and A. C. Campbell's factory in Hamilton, Ohio. Most of these carbines were issued to Midwestern units. It has the standard Type II, Third Variation markings and features.
