Author: Gerold Frank - Gerold Frank was an American author and ghostwriter. He wrote several celebrity memoirs and was considered a pioneer of the "as told to" form of (auto)biography. His two best-known books, however, are "The Boston Strangler" (1966), which was adapted as the 1968 movie starring Tony Curtis and Henry Fonda, and "An American Death" (1972), about the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. [Courtesy Wikipedia]

Book Details: This first edition biography of the actress Judy Garland is inscribed to her fellow Hollywood legend Joan Crawford and bears a bookplate indicating that the text was once part of Crawford's personal collection.

The volume is complete with its original dust jacket. Beneath the dust jacket, the text is bound by gray cloth covered boards with the title emblazoned in purple ink on the spine cover.

The front flap of the dust jacket offers some information about the content of this work:
"There has never been a biography of Judy Garland like this one. Indeed, there has never been a Hollywood story like this one. For Judy was the consummate star. Others have tried to capture her quicksilver quality, but only Gerold Frank has been able to approach the brilliant complexities that created and destroyed Judy Garland.

Unlike others, Mr. Frank has had access to all of the Garland material - family records, letters, contracts. He has been the only writer to get the full cooperation, given with the utmost candor, of Miss Garland's children, husbands, doctors, relatives, fellow actors, directors. He has conducted over 200 interviews and collected 10,000 pages of notes for this book. In short, this is the definitive biography. Mr. Frank has put it all together in absorbingly intimate detail - creating a monumental story of the birth, flaming glory and death of a star."

Condition / Notes: This volume shows exceptionally well bearing only a typical range of age and wear indications. There is some light chipping and rubbing on the high points of the dust jacket and a small sticker affixed to its spine. The boards of the text show some light toning. The binding is solid and firm, the pages are clean, and the text is clear and legible throughout. The inscription is not entirely decipherable though the words "For Joan Crawford" and "With admiration and best wishes" are legible. It is unclear from whom Crawford received this gift. It appears to be dated May 31, 1975.
