World War II German Fully Automatic Class III/NFA C&R MP40 Submachine Gun Manufactured by Erma This is a solid representative example of a WWII German MP40 Submachine Gun that was manufactured by Erma in 1940. These MP40 SMGs were highly prized as war trophies even during WWII and are a very sought-after WWII SMGs. They are termed a Machine Pistol, hence the "MP" model designation in MP-40, but they are still a true fully automatic submachine gun, firing from an open bolt using the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. They were produced by three primary factories; Erma-Werkes, Haenel and Steyr. They were an excellent wartime machine gun that utilized steel stampings combined with limited machined parts to increase manufacturing speed and reduce time and cost. The top of the rear receiver end cap is stamped with: "MP40/27/40". The left side of the receiver is marked with the original serial number "7373" which was lined and restamped with serial number "4235". It has the correct "WaA280" Waffenamt proofmarks on the various parts. It has the dark red lower receiver cover with the dark brown, bakelite grips. The lower receiver/trigger housing group, folding buttstock, bolt, firing pin and rear sight are all correctly serial numbered either "4235" or "235", with the barrel nut numbered "877". The receiver is missing the resting bar. This lot includes 3 extra magazines, two with WWII markings, a M1 carbine canvas sling, two magazine pouches and 2 books, one a reproduction field manual in German and the other a current paperback on the history of the MP40.
