German DWM Model 1893 Borchardt Semi-Automatic Pistol with Shoulder Stock This is a solid representative example of a Model 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol manufactured by DWM between 1896-1898. The Model 1893 was designed Hugo Borchardt and was among the first viable semi-automatic pistol designs to hit the commercial market. It was also an important forerunner to the work of Georg Luger, who would refine the core mechanical principles of the Borchardt pistol to make his own eponymous and world famous handgun. It has fixed blade front and notch rear sights, unmarked chamber, "SYSTEM BORCHARDT. PATENT./DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN./BERLIN." on the right of the frame, and the patent marking "D.R.P./No75837" on the front toggle link. A series of "crown/letter" (B, U, and G) proofs are marked on the barrel, barrel extension and toggle assembly, with the "172,28" bore diameter on the left side of the barrel. It has a set of finely checkered hardwood grips. The matching visible serial number "2063" is marked on various components, and non-matching number "1761" is on the walnut base of the nickel finished magazine. Includes a wooden shoulder stock with cheek rest (absent release knob).
