German 98K Mauser Cutaway Bolt Action Rifle This is a nice contemporary example of a WWII German 98K Mauser rifle that was used as a training aids. These rifles were usually manufactured directly in the factories or at a depot for use in the field. This rifle was a standard fully accepted rife and as such carries a complete serial number and some proof marks. The rifle was probably a mid war production and has been completely cutaway in several areas to expose the inter-workings of rifle. The sections that have been milled away are: 1) the rear portion of the barrel and front portion of the receiver, directly in the chamber area, 2) a 11 inch section of the right side of the stock, directly in the receiver area, exposing the side of the box magazine, sear engagement and mating surfaces of the front of the trigger guard and recoil lug 3) also a section directly in front of the buttplate, 4) approximately a 3 1/2 inch section of the stock and barrel between the rear sight and the rear band, 5) a 2 inch section of the barrel in front of the front barrel band, 6) the muzzle and front sight base area and 7) approximately a 2 1/2 inch section of the bolt body exposing the firing pin mechanism. The entire left side of the rifle has the normal outward appearance of a complete and functional rifle.
