Condition / Notes: This first Modern Library edition of this novel has an introduction by Harry Hansen, who has signed a tipped-in card at the front of the book.

This book is bound in leatherette with stamped gilt lettering to the spine. The Modern Library emblem appears stamped in gold on the front cover. The book shows light shelfwear. The binding is firm. The interior is clean and bright.

This book is from the library of Leroy Truman Goble, a minor figure in the Chicago literary renaissance of the 1920's. Goble was friendly with the likes of Sherwood Anderson and Ben Hecht. He was also a photographer and artist, although he seems to have worked in the fledgling advertising in Chicago during that time.
