Author: George Frederick Wright - George Frederick Wright was an American geologist and a professor at Oberlin Theological Seminary, first of New Testament language and literature (1881 – 1892), and then of "harmony of science and revelation" (until retirement in 1907). He wrote prolifically, publishing works in geology, history, and theology. Early in his career he was an outspoken defender of Darwinism, and later in life he emphasized his commitment to a form of theistic evolution.

Book Details: "In the summer of 1886 I organized a small party to make some investigation of glacial phenomena in Alaska. A company consisting of Rev. J. L. Patton, Greenville, Mich., Mr. Prentiss Baldwin, of Cleveland, Ohio, and myself, took the steamer Idaho, Captain Hunter commanding, at Port Townsend, on the 24th of July." These opening lines of the text are followed by sections devoted to the description of Glacier Bay, the dimensions and characteristics of the Muir Glacier, the Moraines, indirect evidence of motion, subglacial streams, direct measurement of velocity, the retreat of the glacier, a buried forest, kames and kettle-holes, transportation and waste by water, other glaciers, and temperature.

This antique volume is bound in its original printed wrappers. This booklet displays moderate external wear, with light soiling and faint staining to the covers. The binding is sound. The bottom edge of the text block exhibits faint water markings. This work is illustrated with two area maps.
