Superb L.D. Nimschke Relief Panel Scene Engraved Gold Inlaid A.G. Genez Heavy Combination Shotgun/Rifle Big Game Hammer Gun Manufactured circa 1880, this is a very nice example of a Louis D. Nimschke relief engraved big game combination shotgun/rifle manufactured by A. G. Genez of New York, New York. Genez manufactured a variety of firearms during his working life, circa 1850-1875, mainly percussion double barrel shotguns and percussion pistols, making this combination hammer gun rare. This has octagon solid rib barrels with 12 gauge shotgun on the left and 45/60 caliber on the right barrel. The shotgun barrel is Damascus patterned with brown finish and the rifle barrel is a blue finish. The remaining metal surfaces are casehardened. Dovetailed blade front sight and screw attached fixed "v" notched rear sight on the smooth concave solid rib with doll's head extension, marked in gold inlays A. G. GENEZ MAKER NEW-YORK" near the breech. The locks are relief engraved with very detailed animal scenes with a running deer and hunting dog on the right side and a fox and quail on the left side. The rear of each side has a relief engraved animal head. The scissors action, break lever, trigger guard, tangs and hammer sides are nicely floral scroll engraved and the trigger guard also has a relief engraved scene of a deer lying in a field. Each lock directly under the hammer is gold inlaid "A. G. GENEZ" and there is a gold inlaid thumb shield. The shotgun barrel has a 2 3/4 inch chamber, with an open choke and there is an extractor. The rifle trigger is a single set, sling swivel eye mounted on the underside of the barrels and mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut straight grip stock with an engraved trap door, buttstock compartment for 2 12 gauges shells and sling swivel eye. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches. Manufacturer: Genez A G Model: Percussion BBL: 28 inch solid rib Stock: walnut Gauge: 45 Finish: brown/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: NSN Class: Antique Condition: Very fine with 85% of the original combination blue/brown finish remaining and most of the Damascus pattern remaining. There are traces of original bright case colors around the hammers and in protected areas of the frame, with a mostly smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. All of the gold inlay remains. The stock is also very fine with a few minor nicks and dings, and crisp checkering. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. A very fine and unique A.G. Genez combination rifle/shotgun.
