Five Slaves in Georgia! Estate Inventory Lists & Values
MD

[SLAVERY.] Manuscript Document Inventory of Items in the Estate of Jonathan Mann, ca. 1833-1837, [Fayette County, Georgia]. 2 pp., 7.75" x 12.5". General toning; separation on some folds partially repaired with cellophane tape.

This document provides the details of the value of five enslaved African Americans owned by Jonathan Mann, along with other items in his estate in Fayette County, Georgia. Together, they were valued at $1,900, the most valuable parts of Mann's personal property.

On January 5, 1832, Jonathan Mann offered a $5 reward for the apprehension of his slave Frank, listed here, whom he described as "about 34 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, yellow complexion, and has a mould under his right eye. It is probable that he aimed for Macon, where I think it likely he is now lurking."
