Impressive and Fine Engraved Westley Richards Double Barrel 1897 Patent Hand Detachable Lock (Drop Lock) Ejector Dangerous Game Rifle with An Additional Set of Barrels Blacked barrels engraved ".500 SCHULER RIMLESS CARTRIDGE" (interchangeable with .500 Jeffery Rimless) on the left tube and with concave rib signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS, 23, CONDUIT ST. LONDON. GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY GEORGE V" and engraved with a spray of scrollwork. Matted quarter rib with scroll engraved ramp and doll's head extension fitted with rear express sight of one fixed and four folding leaves graduated from "100 YDS" to "500 YDS". Block mounted bead front sight with flip up moon sight and hinged tunnel cover. Casehardened action engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS EJECTOR" and with blued striker discs, top lever, blued manual safety with gold inlaid "SAFE", blued manual safety bolt with gold inlaid "BOLTED", blued hinged floor plate, and bright engine turned locks respectively marked with gold inlaid "R" and "L". Casehardened trigger plate with double triggers, blued trigger guard engraved with a rhino, and casehardened pistol grip cap with hinged trap cover. Well figured 14 1/2 inch pistol grip stock including 7/8 inch rubber recoil pad and with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip, forearm and panels behind the action. The underside of the butt is inset with a large silver escutcheon engraved with initials. Blacked iron sling mounts and fine scroll engraving throughout. Weight: 11 lbs. 15 oz., Birmingham nitro proof marks for 118 grs powder and 530 grs bullet. The additional 22 inch blacked chopperlump barrels serial numbered to the rifle and with secondary number "19709". Engraved respectively on each tube "CAL .458 WINCHESTER MAGNUM" and "REGULATED FOR 500 GRAIN BULLET", and signed on the concave scroll engraved rib "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. ENGLAND". Partially matted raised quarter rib with scroll engraved doll's head extension and rear sight of one fixed and two folding leaves graduated from "50 YDS" to "200 YDS". Block mounted bead front sight with flip up moon sight and hinged scroll engraved tunnel cover. Weight: 11 lbs. 12 oz., London nitro proof marks for 1975. The manufacturer confirmed that this rifle was completed in December 1937 for H. Gros. The records note the chambering as .500 Rimless "Schuler" regulated for a 535 grs bullet.
