It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum letter states that the serial number was applied on July 27, 1887, and verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in on August 13, 1887, and shipped in order number 21829 on August 18, 1887.
