Factory Special Assembly Smith & Wesson Ladysmith Double Action Target Revolver The top of the barrel has the two-line address/patent dates marking flanked by Maltese crosses with the front cross stamped at the base of the front sight. The sides of the frame are unmarked. (The S&W trademark was stamped on the frames of known Ladysmiths.) The full serial number is located on the butt, rear cylinder face and barrel, with a factory rework star accompanying the barrel number. The partial serial number "4896" is located on the inside of the frame and crane. The left side of the frame under the grip panel is stamped with the number "1159" (factory refinish date) and a factory rework star. Equipped with an adjustable rear sight. Fitted with smooth S&W medallion grips (right panel numbered to the gun). The revolver has a serial number that falls out of the range for Ladysmith revolvers. All known variations of the Ladysmith revolver fall into the serial number range of 1-26,154. This revolver has the serial number 48,960, nearly 23,000 above from the last known serial number. Writer was informed that Gil Hebard received this from a Smith & Wesson factory representative as it is truly a unique Ladysmith Revolver! Provenance: Gil Hebard Collection.
