Historic Singer Board of Director Member Documented Factory Engraved, Gold Inlaid and Inscribed Colt Officer's Model Target Double Action Revolver with Relief Carved Eagle Pearl Grips The accompanying factory letter (photocopy) lists this revolver with a 6 inch barrel in .38 caliber, blue finish, checkered ivory grips (currently carved pearl), and factory class "C" engraving with inscription when it was shipped to W.H. Hoegee Co. of Los Angeles, California, on July 27, 1932. The letter does not mention gold inlay or gold plating (although it is obviously original). The beautiful factory class "C" engraving covers nearly all of the surfaces and follows a pattern by W.H. Gough, who was an active engraver for the Colt factory from 1910-1940. The engraving has matte and punch dot backgrounds. The class "C" engraving was the highest coverage Colt offered at this time and was usually reserved for the very rich or elite among the top shots in the shooting fraternity. Gold inlaid borders surround the standard Colt barrel markings. The left side of the frame has the factory inscription "ARTHUR K-BOURNE/PASADENA/CALIFORNIA." This inscription is in gold inlay. Arthur Keeler Bourne (1877-1967) was the second son to Frederick Gilbert Bourne, who was the 5th President of the Singer Manufacturing Company from 1889 to 1905 credited for leading Singer to worldwide success. For many years Arthur served on Singer's board of directors and as its treasurer. After retiring from Singer in 1931, Arthur and his second wife, Alberta, moved to Nevada where they became actively involved in the development of Lake Tahoe. He also founded the annual Pasadena Golf Tourney and, along with his first wife, started Clairbourn School which continues as a private school for students primarily living in the Pasadena, San Marino and Arcadia areas. Perhaps this revolver was gifted to Arthur for his support of the Pasadena Golf Tourney. The grip straps are checkered. It is fitted with adjustable Patridge blade front and adjustable notch rear sights. The left side of the frame has the Rampant Colt surrounded by the engraving. The revolver is blued with the exception of the hammer and trigger which are plated in gold. The pearl grips feature a relief carved eagle with a jeweled eye on the right panel. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Officers Model BBL: 6 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 Long Colt Finish: blue/gold inlaid Grips: relief carved pearl Serial Number: 584963 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent plus. The revolver retains 99% plus original blue finish showing the slightest handling marks. A series of scratches are present on the "PASADENA" inlay. 95% of the gold plating remains on the hammer and trigger. The grips are excellent with a minor chip missing near the bottom (left panel) and a small surface chip missing near the top (right panel). The carving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. An opportunity to acquire a factory engraved and inscribed Officer's Model revolver linked to the Singer Manufacturing Company legacy that will be a great addition to even the most advanced Colt DA collections!
