Documented Factory Engraved Blackpowder Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter Pictured in The Book of Colt Engraving Manufactured in 1883. This revolver is pictured and briefly described on page 225 of R.L. Wilson's "The Book of Colt Engraving". Features factory floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the barrel, frame and cylinder flats. There is a zig-zag line and dot motif on the ejector rod housing, top strap, rear edge of the cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address. The three-line, three-patent dates are on the left side of the frame, and the upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "45 CAL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, silver finish and fitted with a smooth one-piece grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length and factory engraving, listing the finish as nickel and grips as rubber at the time it was shipped as 1 of 3 to J.P. Moores Sons in New York City on December 10, 1883. Comes with a contemporary wooden case. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 5 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 LC Finish: nickel silver Grips: antique ivory Serial Number: 101810 Class: Antique Condition: Good as period replated with most of the silver plating remaining. The remaining metal surfaces show signs of being polished. The grip is undersized and remains very good with a caramel patina and numerous minor age cracks. A small portion of the engraving has been buffed down; otherwise, the markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent. The custom case is very good.
