Factory Engraved Black Powder Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Pearl Grips, Extra Cylinder and Factory Letter Manufactured in 1883 and originally factory engraved. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a factory engraving nickel finish, .45 LC caliber barrel (length not listed) and type of stocks not listed when it was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis, Missouri, on March 13, 1883, as part of a 10 gun shipment. The top of the barrel has the one-line Hartford address. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "45 CAL." 70% of the surface is engraved and the motif consists of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background and zig-zag line/dot patterns. A fan motif is engraved on the loading gate and recoil shield. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, cylinder and both grip straps. The added extra .45 LC cylinder is un-numbered and has an engraving that mirrors the embellishment found on the revolver. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 7 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 LC Finish: nickel Grips: pearl Serial Number: 88182 Class: Antique Condition: Very good as restored. The replacement barrel has re-cut engraving and re-rolled address. The trigger guard and ejector housing retain half of the nickel finish, otherwise only scattered traces of nickel remain. There is some light pitting. The grips are very good with a large chip missing near the bottom (left panel), a couple hairline cracks and a couple minor missing chips. Mechanically excellent. The extra cylinder has a re-cut engraving and an overall bright appearance.
