Documented Factory Engraved First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Pearl Grips and Factory Letter Manufactured in 1912 and originally silver-plated and factory engraved. The included factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .45 LC, silver finish, factory engraved and type of stocks not listed when it was shipped to Belknap Hardware & Mfg. Co. of Louisville, Kentucky, on January 8, 1913. In Keith Cochran's "The Great Encyclopedia of the Colt Peacemaker," silver plating is listed as "rare," meaning there was no count given or less than ten. It has been estimated that around 4,500 or .012% of the total First Generation SAAs manufactured were engraved. Factory silver-plated and engraved is without a doubt an extremely rare combination. The engraving consists for floral scrollwork and zig-zag line patterns and covers 80% of the surface. The barrel address is no longer visible, and traces of the barrel caliber marking and frame patent marking remain. The cylinder is plated in gold, and the remaining surfaces are plated in silver. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, both grip straps and cylinder. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 4 3/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 LC Finish: silver/silver Grips: pearl Serial Number: 324603 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fair as period replated. The heavily buffed revolver retains half of the nickel plating with the balance a smooth gray patina. Traces of gold plating remain in the cylinder flutes. There are some areas in the engraving that are washed out. The grips are good with a few missing chips and a repair chip. Mechanically excellent.
