Extremely Scarce Morrill, Mossman and Blair Elgin Cutlass Pistol Manufactured circa 1837, the Morrill, Mossman and Blair Elgin Cutlass can be distinguished by their square back, pointed trigger guard and round barrel. The pistols were invented by George Elgin, inspired by the fame and lore of the popular legendary fighting knife of James Bowie in the 1830s. This particular pistol is the "larger size" with a 4 inch barrel with 8 groove rifling and a 9 inch blade. The serial number is marked on the underside of the frame in front of the trigger. The frame is engraved with a leaf and branch motif with the hammer engraved to look like a fish. The blade is attached on the bottom of the barrel and creates the trigger guard were it attaches at the frame. The front sight is a brass blade with a notch rear sight on the frame. The bag style grip is smooth varnished walnut. The overall length is 14 inches. Manufacturer: Elgin Cutlass Model: Morill Mosman Blair BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 36 Finish: Grips: walnut Serial Number: 67 Class: Antique Condition: About good with gray brown patina overall.
