Extremely Rare DWM Model 1900 Swiss Luger Pistol with Unique "E" Letter Prefix Serial Number This is a beautiful example of a very early 1900 Swiss military contract Luger with the rare "E" prefix serial number that remains in original unaltered condition. These early "E" prefix serial numbers pistols are discussed on page 27 of the book "The Swiss Variations" by Fred Datig and, as indicated, only a very few pistols in the "E588 to E735" serial number range have been reported (mostly in Switzerland with a handful in the U.S.).There is no indication or whereabouts of any pistol produced with serial numbers from "E1 to E587". Additionally he indicated that all of the known examples were over stamped/restamped in Switzerland with a new letter "A" suffix serial number which probably indicated a Swiss arsenal rebuild or upgrade. This specific pistol is probably the very last one manufactured in this range and is not even listed in the serial number lists of that reference book. In examining this pistol, it is apparent that it has not been altered in any way; consequently making this an extremely rare example. This pistol retains its original 7.65 mm caliber chambering with the 4 3/4 inch rapid taper barrel, old style long frame with the flat mainspring, no stock lug, early dished toggles with the toggle lock, recessed flat breechblock, and grip safety. This pistol also still retains the original narrow trigger. The top of the chamber area has the Swiss Cross in sunburst crest with the DWM scroll monogram on the front toggle link. The left side of the barrel extension is stamped with the small Swiss Cross and Cross over "V" control or firing proof of Herr Vogelsang, the Swiss inspector at the DWM factory, along with a small Swiss cross firing proof on the side of the barrel. The full serial number, "E737", is stamped on the underside of the barrel and front of the frame with "737" on the barrel extension recoil and all the remaining parts completely unnumbered. It is complete with one original Swiss pattern, nickel plated magazine with the unnumbered wooden Swiss base. Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1900 BBL: 4 3/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger Finish: blue Grips: walnut checkered Serial Number: E737 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Extremely fine with 98% of the Swiss arsenal rust blue finish overall with maybe a hint of edge wear on the front edges of the frame rails and edges of the side plate hump. The various small parts also retain 98% of their straw colors with just a hint of edge wear. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct, sharp checkering overall. Truly an exceptionally nice all original Swiss 1900 DWM Luger pistol.
