Extremely Rare Documented Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 High Wall .45 Express Rifle with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1891 and chambered for the 45-125 Winchester (45 Express) cartridge. The rifle has a blued, 30 inch, No. 4, full octagon, barrel. The barrel is fitted with a Winchester Model 1890 Express front sight and three leaf Winchester Express rear sight with platinum sight lines. The thin side receiver, breechblock, hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The rifle is fitted with a factory, special order, single set trigger. The buttplate has a sliding brass trap door. The stock and forearm are highly figured, fancy grade "X" walnut with Style H checkering and a high polish piano finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "45 EX." is stamped on the top of the barrel ahead of the receiver. "PAT. OCT. &.79" is stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger followed by the serial number "51545". The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, 45 Express caliber, #4 30 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, "X" stock, checkered, rod in butt (not included), and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse to order number 11664 on September 30, 1891. The rifle is all original and retains 97% of the blue and vivid color casehardened finish. The barrel, front and rear sights have nearly all of the original blue finish. The barrel markings are perfect. The receiver, breechblock, hammer and lever have vivid case colors. Wear is limited to a few tiny spots of discoloration on the edges of the lever and lower receiver. The case colors on the buttplate have faded slightly and have some minor edge wear but retain about 95%. The fancy grade stock and forearm retain 98% of the high polish piano finish. The finely cut checkering is sharp and shows minimal handling wear. Wear is limited to several very minor handling marks on the lower left side of the stock. This is an extremely rare example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 .45 Express rifle in outstanding original condition.
