Exceptional Colt London Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Factory Case and Accessories Colt London Model 1849 Pocket revolver manufactured in 1854. This Third Model revolver features a steel back strap and large oval trigger guard. The loading cut-out in the barrel lug is not beveled. The hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The trigger guard and back strap use the round head screws found on Colt London revolvers. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and the top flat is roll-stamped with the legend: "{ ADDRESS. COL: COLT/LONDON.}" in two-lines. London "Crown/V" and "Crown/CP" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and between each cylinder chamber. The five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT" markings. "COLTS/PATENT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. The full serial number, "2323" is stamped on the loading lever, barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The revolver barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap are blued and the loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened. The one-piece walnut grip has a high polish piano finish. The revolver is complete with a mahogany case with scalloped brass plate inlaid in the lid. The case interior is lined with crimson velvet and has five compartments. The case is complete with a full set of London accessories which include: (1) pewter oil bottle marked "JAMES DIXON/& SONS/SHEFFIELD" on the bottom, (2) bag-shaped powder flask with adjustable charger and brown lacquer body marked: "COLTS POCKET FLASK/JAMES DIXON/& SONS/SHEFFIELD" on the lid, (3) L-shaped, blued combination, screw-driver/nipple wrench, (4) iron, double cavity, straight leg, blued bullet mold marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the sprue cutter, (5) large, 500 count, Ely percussion cap tin for Colt belt and pocket pistols with green paper label and (6) key. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1849 BBL: 4 Inch Stock: Gauge: 31 percussion Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: varnished walnut Serial Number: 2323 Class: Antique Condition: Excellent. The revolver is all original and retains 90% of the bright original high polish blue finish. Most of the limited finish wear is concentrated on the grip straps. The cylinder has nearly all of the Stagecoach Holdup scene. All of the cylinder safety pins remain intact. The percussion nipples show only light flash pitting. The loading lever and frame retain 95% of the vivid case colors. The sides of the hammer show light finish wear with traces of flash pitting. The grip has nearly 100% of the high polish varnish finish intact and shows only very minor handling wear. The screw heads are free from screw-driver battering. All of the markings and serial numbers are extremely sharp. The case is in very good overall condition with one hair-line crack in the lid and a few minor storage marks. The interior lining is bright and wear is limited to a few minor oil stains and compression marks. The powder flask is in excellent condition and retains close to 95% of the original brown lacquer and gold-plated finish. The bullet mold, combination tool and oil bottle are also in excellent condition and show only minimal wear. The cap tin is in good overall condition and retains nearly all of the green paper label. This is an exceptional example of a factory cased Colt London Model 1849 Pocket revolver in excellent original condition.
