Excellent World War II German J.P. Sauer & Sohn M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling with Case and Accessories Offered here is an excellent surviving example of a World War II German J.P. Sauer & Sohn M30 Drilling with its survival case. Manufactured by Sauer & Sohn c. 1941-1942 on contract for the Luftwaffe, the M30 Drillings are a commercial grade hunting weapon that could be stowed aboard bombers and other large aircraft intended for use as survival weapons for aircrews and are known to have been carried in North Africa and the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. They were considered to be the finest survival rifle ever issued by any military. The dual shotgun barrels and single rifle barrel gave the ability to address nearly any game animal that may be reasonably encountered. The barrels have a commercial grade blue finish, and a beautiful, vivid, case colored finish is on the receiver, trigger guard, forend attaching iron and grip cap. The receiver and trigger guard are decorated with impeccably executed scroll engraving. The Sauer & Sohn intertwined "SuS" monogram is engraved on the underside of the receiver. The legend "J.P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL" is roll-stamped on the breech of both shotgun barrels and on both sides of the receiver. Blued "KRUPP-LAUFSTAHL" barrels chambered in 12 gauge up top and 9.3x74R below in the rifled barrel, with a fixed bead sight at the front, a flip-up rear rifle sight controlled by the selector switch, light decorative band engraving at the rear, a prominent "Luftwaffe eagle" on the right chamber and a combination of commercial proof marks and a Luftwaffe "eagle/L2" on bottom at breech. The frame has three indicator pins, barrel selector and "S/K" selector markings on the upper tang, Greener-style safety on the left, and dual triggers with a single set front trigger. Fine checkering is present on the splinter forearm and pistol grip stock, the latter showing a lightly engraved casehardened grip cap, right handed cheek rest, a "Luftwaffe eagle" stamp on the right side, and a serrated buttplate with "SuS" monogram. The matching full serial number "339629" is marked on the bottom of barrel assembly, frame and lower tang, and matching partial "9629" is on the interior of the forearm. The drilling is complete with an original Luftwaffe aluminum gray painted survival case with the gun model nomenclature in black painted stencil letters on top of the lid, containing a period boxed three-section wooden cleaning rod, a brown leather sling, and cleaning brushes. Length of pull is 14 inches.
