Excellent World War II U.S. Winchester Model 97 Takedown Slide Action Trench Shotgun Manufactured in 1943. The Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun gained worldwide fame in the trenches of World War I with its slam fire capability and was extensively utilized in the Pacific Theater during World War II through the Vietnam War, and remained in U.S. Army and Marine Corps inventory until the 1990s. This classic military shotgun is desirable in any condition let alone with excellent original finish. Single bead front sight mounted on the four-hole heat shield with bayonet lug adapter, and a filled in hole from a previous sight bead on top of the barrel, as likely factory converted to Trench configuration during World War II due to high demand. The barrel is marked for cylinder choke, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and "43" dated on the underside. A flaming bomb proof is stamped on top of the barrel, with "U.S." and a flaming bomb on the left side of the frame. Matching visible serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the receiver and takedown collar. Ribbed forearm and smooth highly figured pistol grip stock with a boxed "G.H.D." and crossed cannons stamped on the left, sling swivels, checkered buttplate and a 13 3/4 inch length of pull. Fitted with an M1907 brown leather sling.

The buttstock is very fine, with distinct edges, light scratches, and exceptionally crisp stamps. The forearm is very good, with a vertical patch of chips on the forward side. Mechanically excellent. An excellent World War II Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun that would make a strong statement in any fine U.S. military firearms collection!
