Primarily formed from 'freikorps' militias in the aftermath of WWI, the collapse of the monarchy and the resulting domestic chaos, the Einwhonerwehr was pro-monarchy, anti-sematic, and violently anti-communist, and operated both independently and with the tacit approval of the Bavarian government. Among its more prominent members was Ernst Rohm, future chief of the Nazi Stormtroopers. While formally disbanded in 1921, most members joined other organizations, post prominently Bund Bayern und Reich (Bavaria and Empire League) which would eventually be absorbed by Stahlhelm and then merged with the Nazi Party. Included with the pistol is an "AWM/2" marked brown leather holster and a small takedown/loading tool.
