Engraved Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter This is an extensively restored example of a Second Model 1873 that was manufactured in 1878. Features factory floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the receiver, forend cap and buttplate tang. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" and the serial number is on the lower tang. Dovetailed blade front and folding sporting leaf rear sights. The rear sight is graduated to 800 yards and marked "1873". The barrel, full length magazine tube and sling swivels are blue, the hammer and lever casehardened, the trigger niter blue and the remaining metal surfaces are silver plated. It has a single set trigger and is mounted with nicely figured smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate, with compartment (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, octagon barrel, set trigger, sporting leaf sight, "Sling and swivel", silver plated, engraved, and it was received in the warehouse on December 19, 1878, and shipped out the next day. The modern replacement wood is fine with only a few minor handling marks. The markings and recut engraving are clear. The action is fine.
