Engraved Winchester Deluxe Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter Originally manufactured in 1887 as a deluxe variation of the Model 1873 Rifle with casehardened frame and subsequently engraved/gold and silver plated. The factory letter states that it had a 26 inch octagon barrel in .38 caliber, set trigger and checkered pistol grip stock when it was received in the warehouse on November 17, 1887 and shipped the same day. The aftermarket engraving consists of scrollwork on the frame, lever, hammer, buttplate tang, forend cap, dust cover and barrel at the breech and mid-point as well as wide band of engraving at the muzzle and a circle animal panel scene on the left side plate. Equipped with combination Beach front and folding ladder sights. The Winchester markings are retained and "J.VLRICH" is present on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is marked "1147 XX, 38," and the upper tang stock cut-out is marked "38" and "1147." Mounted on highly figured and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with ebony insert on the grip cap, blank silver oval plaque on the right side of the buttstock and crescent buttplate with compartment. The barrel, magazine, hammer and lever are silver plated, and remaining surfaces are gold plated. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1873 BBL: 26 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 38 WCF Finish: gold/blue Grips: Serial Number: 252832 Class: Antique Condition: Very fine as professionally custom embellished/upgraded to a factory style engraving pattern. The fine refinished wood has a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
