Engraved Hunter Arms No. 4E L.C. Smith Double Barrel Side Lock Shotgun This L.C. Smith was manufactured by Hunter Arms Co. pre-1913 and features: full/improved modified chokes, dual bead sights, a gold inlaid band and "HUNTER ARMS CO. FULTON N.Y." on top of the rib near the breech, the serial number and "4E" on the left lower flat, nitro steel markings on the bottom of both barrels ahead of the flats, 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, matching numbered and "PAT'D MAY 28.1901" marked splinter forearm with checkering and a horn tip, matching numbered water table with patent markings, English style scrollwork engraving patterns, "L.C. SMITH" and a dog scenes on the matching numbered locks, "4E" on the left side of the frame under the lock, bird scene on the trigger guard, single selective trigger, tang safety, and a round knob semi-pistol grip buttstock with checkering, 1 7/8 inch drop at the comb, 2 3/4 inch drop at the heel, 15 inch length of pull, and a finely checkered steel buttplate. The barrel measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .728/.733 inch; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .041/.0385 inch. There are some light scratches and marks and limited minor edge wear. The forearm is also very good and has dark finish, minor edge wear, crisp checkering, a few dings, and a tiny hairline crack at the rear. The replacement buttstock is excellent and has a more golden tone finish, attractive figure, crisp checkering, and minor marks. Mechanically excellent.
