Engraved G.E. Lewis .450 Express Back Action Hammer Double Rifle with Case Manufactured by the Birmingham firm of George Edward Lewis. Beaded blade front and three-leaf (one standing, two folding) rear express sight with silver inlaid sighting lines, barrel flats stamped with standard British commercial proofs and caliber notation "450 EX," and engraved tight English scroll with floral flourishes and lock plates marked "G.E. LEWIS." Mounted with a wedge fastened splinter forearm with an ebony tip insert and pistol grip stock with a silver inscription disk inscribed with untranslated characters that appear to be Sanskrit fixed to the right side. Stock measurements: drop at comb 2 inches; drop at heel 3 1/4 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches. The canvas and leather bound takedown case has the initials "D.M.C" on the lid and an Army & Navy Cooperative Society retail label on the interior. Includes a two-piece wood cleaning rod, celluloid oil bottle, two wood handled turnscrews and pair of wire mesh goggles with clear glass lenses in an unmarked tin (similar to early 20th century driving goggles). The wood is fine with well defined checkering and some small dings on the buttstock. The forearm has been repaired and the checkering is worn. Mechanically very good. The case is fair with discoloration, small scuffs and gouges overall and mismatched leather straps.
