Engraved E. J. Churchill Crown Model Hammerless Double Barrel XXV Shotgun with Factory Letters and Case Bead front sight, full/improved modified chokes, maker's address markings and "XXV" inlay on the barrels, 2 3/4 inch chambers, ejectors, floral engraving and "E. J. CHURCHILL" on the action, crown emblem on the bottom, matching serial numbers, and checkered forearm and straight wrist stock with red recoil pad. The factory letter sent to "F. C. Lynch, Esq." at General Motors de Portugal Limitada in Lisbon on November 20th, 1959, indicates that the shotgun was manufactured for Messrs. Bondi & Co. of Cairo, Egypt, in 1935 with a plain finished A & D hammerless non-ejector action, 12 gauge XXV barrels, 2 3/4 inch chambers, right barrel bored for 3/4 choke, left barrel full choked, and "Nitro Proved 1 1/4 oz." The stock dimensions were "Bend 1 3/8 x 2 1/8", Stock 14 1/2", straight hand. Fitted Recoil Pad. Cast off 1/8 x 1/4 x 3/8". Weight 7 lbs." The January 12, 1960, repair ticket indicates it was factory repaired/refinished. Information included by the consignor indicates the shotgun was given to Frank C. Lynch by an Egyptian friend after WWII. He served as managing director of General Motors Middle East from 1939 to 1957. During WWII, the facilities were used by the Allies. Lynch then worked for GM's office in Lisbon, Portugal, until his retirement in 1960. The shotgun was given to the consignor in 1965, used little, and has not been fired since 1967. The lacquered wood case is believed to be original to the gun, but this is not guaranteed. It has a "F. C. L." inscribed plaque on top, brass hardware, leather straps, and a pair of Westley Richards snap caps inside. Barrel measurements: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .731/.732 inch; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .0595/.059 inch. Manufacturer: Churchill E J Ltd Model: Premier Side by Side BBL: 25 inch solid rib Stock: walnut Gauge: 12 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 5246 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine as factory refurbished. 95% plus of the blue finish and case colors remain. There is some minor fading and light spotting at the breech and scattered minor marks.
