Cased Silver Plated George Spring Signed Factory Exhibition Engraved Colt Second Series Woodsman Target Semi-Automatic Pistol with SHG Serial Number Manufactured in 1952, this Colt Woodsman Target semi-automatic pistol features a factory engraving executed by Master Engraver George Spring. The engraving, silver finish, grips, special serial number suffix ("SHG") and factory case points to this Woodsman as being a factory exhibition pistol. At the time of this writing a factory letter was not available to the writer. High quality factory engraved scrollwork on a dot background appears on the rear of the barrel, sides of the frame, sides and top of the slide and grip straps. The scrollwork surrounds the Rampant Colt Woodsman logo on the left side of the frame. The "SHG" serial number is engraved on the right side of the frame surrounded by scrollwork. The embellishment on this pistol is equivalent to a factory Class "A" engraving. The left side of the frame under the grip panel is signed by Master Engraver George Spring: "SPRING." The left side of the pistol has the one-line Hartford address on the barrel, the Rampant Colt/Woodsman marking on the frame and the "COLT"/caliber legend on the slide. The pistol is fitted with a ramped front Patridge sight, an adjustable rear notch sight, smooth trigger and magazine release on the butt. The pistol is plated in silver and the small components have a high polished blue finish. Fitted with smooth two-piece grips. The magazine is silver plated and is marked "COLT CAL. 22 L.R." on the base. Comes in a Colt branded velvet lined partitioned case holding a cartridge block, "COLT" marked oiler, case key, bore rod and two extra silver plated "COLT CAL. 22 L.R." marked magazines. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Woodsman BBL: 6 inch round Stock: Gauge: 22 LR Finish: silver Grips: original to gun Serial Number: 101340SHG Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus silver plating showing a small spot of flaking behind the front sight. The grips are excellent showing a highly attractive grain pattern and color. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing some minor handling/storage marks and high spot wear on the lining. A true work of post-World War II Colt craftsmanship that would find a place in the most advance sporting sidearm collections.
