English Cased Pair of Engraved Colt Third Model Derringers -A) Engraved Colt Third Model Derringer English Cased Pair of Engraved Colt Third Model Derringers -A) Engraved Colt Third Model Derringer This pair of Colt Derringers have English proofmarks on the bottom of the barrels and come in a hardwood case with English fitted interior and Colt's Pall Mall retail label. This model was manufactured from 1870 to 1912. This pair is the standard model style but has the high hammer from the early variations. They have matching English style engraving, but their serial numbers are fairly far apart suggesting the engraving was done later. The grips are numbered to the guns. The top of the case lid has deeply carved intertwined "JAJ/ HM80 Regt." markings with painted highlighting. Another lighter "808 Regt" marking is below the case plaque without highlighting, and there are some smaller, lightly carved letters up top. The 80th Regiment of Foot was active in Southeast Asia and South Africa in the late 19th century. They fought in the Perak War and Anglo-Zulu War before becoming the South Staffordshire Volunteer Regiment on July 1, 1881, after returning to the British Isles.
