Attractive Engraved Colt Model 1902 (Sporting) Semi-Automatic Pistol First year production Colt Model 1902 sporting pistol manufactured in 1903 that was subsequently custom embellished. The pistol has the distinctive rounded butt, serrations on the front of the slide, spur hammer and 7-shot magazine. The pistol lacks the slide stop and lanyard swivel found on the Colt Model 1902 (Military) pistols. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the early style patent marking: "BROWNING'S PATENT/PAT'D APRIL 20 1897" in a two line block followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." in two lines and the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines. The serial number "4186" is stamped on the left side of the frame above the trigger. The pistol has a high polish blue finish with casehardened hammer and niter blue barrel and trigger. The pistol is engraved with flawlessly executed Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background. The engraving style is similar to that executed by Cuno A. Helfricht and the coverage approximates Colt "B" factory engraving. The pistol is fitted with exquisitely carved grips that duplicate the original hard rubber grips fitted on the Model 1902 pistols. The pistol is fitted with a nickel plated replacement magazine. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1902 BBL: 6 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 Colt auto Finish: blue Grips: ivory Serial Number: 4186 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Near mint as custom embellished. The pistol retains nearly all of the custom, high polish blue finish with slight handling marks. The engraving is crisp. All of the Colt markings on the slide and frame are sharp. The grips are in perfect condition. The quality of the engraving, carving, and finish are exceptional and are nearly equal to Colt period engraving and finish. This is a striking example of an engraved Colt Model 1902 pistol in outstanding condition.
