Engraved and Gold Inlaid Roy Vail 20 Gauge Double Barrel Hammerless Shotgun with Case This shotgun is marked "ROY VAIL WARWICK N.Y." on the top of the textured rib near the breech in gold inlay. Roy Vail was a renowned shotgun and rifle maker active from the 1950s to the 1970s and completed an estimated 150 shotguns and 200 rifles, often using European actions. He would add the wood, engraving, inlays, and checkering. The receiver has scrollwork and gold inlaid birds with foliage backgrounds. The bottom of the barrels and the water table have Belgian proofmarks and the matching serial number. The "*/S" mark is for proof controller Daenen Charles (active 1952-1980). The forearm is also numbered to the gun and has multi-point checkering. It features improved cylinder/cylinder chokes, a single white bead front sight, 3 inch chambers with ejectors, double triggers, an automatic tang safety with "S" in gold inlay, a multi-point checkered walnut buttstock with straight wrist, 1 3/4 inch drop at comb, 2 1/2 inch drop at heel, 14 1/2 inch length of pull, and a solid brown Pachmayr recoil pad with black spacer. A mutton style takedown case is included. It is mechanically fine, but the triggers stick do to dried grease. The case is very good with minor wear.
