Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. Carved limestone statuette depicting Renenutet, the cobra-headed goddess of nourishment, motherhood, harvest, and fertility, a rare subject resembling Isis suckling Horus. She holds the pharaoh Thutmosis III as an infant on her lap. The figure is fragmentary, with a portion of the cobra face lost. Size: 1.8" W x 3.9" H x 2.5" D (4.6 cm W x 9.9 cm H x 6.3 cm D); on included custom stand: 2" W x 6.2" H x 2.6" D (5.1 cm W x 15.7 cm H x 6.6 cm D).

Thermoluminescence testing returned an initial date of ca. 300 BCE, roughly 1,000 years later than the sculpture's stylistic date. Carbon deposits on the surface indicate later exposure to fire; since heat resets the thermoluminescent clock, this is consistent with the limestone being heated to over 900°F about 1,000 years after carving, confirming the piece as ancient.

A handwritten label accompanying the piece reads “Mertseger / Andrew C. Ware / 37, rue Decamps / PARIS-XVI / XIX Dyn / Deir el Medineh / 1978,” documenting a Paris collection by 1978. The label's attribution to Meretseger and the 19th Dynasty appears mistaken, as Meretseger's corpus does not include nurturing compositions; the iconography is more consistent with Renenutet. The label is retained as a provenance document from the collection of Andrew Cunningham Ware (1945–2024), who studied under Christiane Desroches Noblecourt.
