Elaborate Engraved and Gold Inlaid Husqvarna Lahti Model 40 Semi-Automatic Pistol The pistol features a floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background and gold inlaid line borders and motifs. The gold inlaid borders and engraved scrollwork appear on the flat sides of the frame and barrel extensions, and the gold inlaid line motifs appear on the front strap and top of the barrel. Two gold bands are featured on the barrel towards the muzzle. The rear sides of the barrel extension have gold animals in raised gold relief, and the top of the barrel extension has the initials "FDB" in flush gold inlay. The left side of the barrel extension is marked "HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS A.B." over the serial number, and the left side of the frame also has the matching serial number. The pistol is fitted with military style fixed sights. The silver grips have a stag appearance with gold accents. The left panel is signed "Rene F[illegible]." According to the consignor notes, this pistol was owned by a member of the De Beers family, presumably referencing the name of diamond mining and trading fame. However, De Beers is derived from the name of a mine that subsequently became the trade name of the famed company which would go on to control most of the diamond market for decades. Nevertheless, this is definitely an exhibition quality pistol geared towards society's most elite.
