Desirable Early Mauser Model 1914 "Humpback" Semi-Automatic Pistol with British Proofs This is a fine example of an early Mauser Model 1914 pistol with the early raised humpback on the top of the slide. This example has British proofs on the right side of the pistol and is fitted with the short barrel and short extractor. The early humpback designed slides were eventually eliminated in the standard Model 1914 pistols. The pistol has the three line Mauser address/patent markings on the left side of the slide with the Mauser Banner below that on the side plate. The rear of the frame, top of the slide, and the side of the barrel lug are all numbered "786." The top of the slide has a "Crown/ U" proof marked behind the rear sight. The right rear side of the frame and slide are stamped with the "Crown/V" firing proof, and the chamber areas is stamped British "NP" nitro proofmark. The right side of the frame above the trigger is very lightly stamped "Not English Made." It is fitted with a set of one-piece, wraparound checkered walnut grips and an unmarked Mauser magazine. Manufacturer: Mauser Model: 1914 BBL: 3 3/8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm auto Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 786 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very good with 80% of the period refinished blue finish still remaining overall, blue loss on the edges and high spots, a mixed brown patina on the left front edge of the slide and side plate, and some small minor pitting above the extractor. The front grip strap and underside of the trigger guard bow are both showing and old cold blue touch up finish and some small dings in the metal. The markings are clear and distinct. The grip is in good condition overall with light handling marks on the sides of the grips on both sides.
