DWM 1906 Dutch Contract Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Unique Japanese Style Military Holster and Two Matching Magazines Manufactured early in a 4,000 piece contract for the Netherlands many of these pistols would be used to arm the Dutch Navy between the World Wars, where they were used to near destruction by the European sailors or captured by the Japanese as Dutch ports and vessels fell into their hands. Fixed sights with a "1927" refurbish mark on the barrel, "crown/W" Dutch acceptance mark on the chamber and the DWM monogram on the toggle link. On the left side of the frame is a brass plaque marked "St.-Inf.V/9"; consignor notes place this as weapon #9 issued to the Staff of the 5th Infantry Battalion. This unit was stationed on the island of Java in the Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia) at the beginning of World War II. Has brass property tag attached to the lanyard ring. The extractor bears the standard "GELADEN" marking, with "RUST" in the safety position and "369" on the wood base of the nickel magazine. With an unmarked brown leather flap holster and a second magazine marked and configured as the first. Both magazines are marked "369" and matched to gun. While not verified as Japanese production, the holster does bear a strong resemblance to holsters seen with European and American weapons captured and re-issued by the Japanese military. Consignor notes state that this pistol can be seen in Volume 35 Issue 4 (July 2002) of 'Automag' Magazine in an article titled "In Search of the Illusive Japanese Luger" by Francis Allen. Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1906 BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 369 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Good as arsenal refurbished with significant pitting around the grips and half of the dull blue finish remaining, showing bright edge wear and scattered spotting and handling marks.
