Documented Nazi-Era Proofed Walther PP Semi-Automatic Pistol in Rare 6.35 mm (25 Auto) Caliber Manufactured in very limited quantities, the 6.35mm (25 ACP) Walther is externally nearly identical to the standard 7.65mm PP and PPK aside from the caliber marking and muzzle diameter. While a quality product, the German public simply was not interested in a full sized pistol chambered for what was seen as a pocket gun cartridge, leading Walther to pull the plug on the design. Oddly, even though Walther nixed the 6.35 mm early in production, this example bears post-1933 "eagle/N" Nazi-era inspection marks, as well as a "P" suffix serial number and showing a caliber marking that appears to have been professionally hand-scribed. This pistol is listed by serial number (minus P suffix) in Walther Vol. II by Rankin on page 130 as a known example of a PP chambered in 6.35 mm. No documentation on this pistol was made available, leaving the true origin of this pistol a mystery; it might have been assembled from parts left over when production was terminated, built on a post-1935 special order, or some other scenario. Fixed sights, with the standard markings on the left side of the slide, a 90 degree safety switch, and milled lightening panels on the interior, which is unnumbered. The frame is equipped with a serrated ring hammer, smooth trigger, checkered Walther banner grips and a flat base magazine. The possibly replaced magazine appears purpose-made magazine, as opposed to the traditional 6.35 mm PP magazine that uses a standard body with a metal sleeve insert for the smaller cartridges. We will consider it an incorrect replacement due to the lack of substantive documentations Manufacturer: Walther Model: PP BBL: 3 7/8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 6.35 mm auto Finish: blue Grips: plastic Serial Number: 209384P Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine, with 85% of the original blue finish, showing areas of mild spotting, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks. A small dent is present beneath the finish of the slide next to the Eagle proof stamp, possibly a factory machining error. The grips are very good, with a few light scratches. A small patch of brown is present on the right side of the magazine, which otherwise shows 85% plus blue. Mechanically excellent.
