Documented Factory Engraved Daniel Fraser 1880 Patent Sidelever Falling Block Takedown Sporting Rifle in .450 Black Powder Express 3 1/4 Inch with Case The rifle was completed prior to 1896 according to page 90 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume Two: Birmingham, Scotland & the Regions" and is listed by serial number, patent use number, .450 B.P.E. 3 1/4 inch caliber, and sporting configuration on page 157 of Johnathon Kirton's "The British Falling Block Breechloading Rifle from 1865". The rifle features a black steel barrel with a beaded blade fore sight with flip-up moon bead on the integral ramp base and a two-leaf (one standing, one folding) rear sight sighted for 100 and 200 yards respectively on the full length matted rib which is marked "DANl. FRASER & Co. Ltd./GUN & RIFLE MANUFACTURERS/4 LEITHS St. TERRACE/EDINBURGH.", a sling stud on the underside, and London proof marks. The detachable barrel is fitted to the casehardened falling block action which shows beautifully executed near full coverage traditional scroll engraving extending to the trigger guard and top tang where it engulfs the inlaid safety indicator. The top of the action "FRASER PATENT/No. 268". The rifle is fitted with a nicely figured and multi-point checkered forend with Alexander Henry horn tip and engraved casehardened Deeley release as well as a pistol grip stock with horn grip cap, shadowline pancake cheekpiece, blank stock shield, rear sling stud, and a hard rubber faced recoil pad. Includes a maker's leather flat case.

  • Condition: Very fine, retaining 90% original black finish on the barrel, 40% original black on the trigger guard/lower tang, 70% original vibrant case colors, some rubbing ahead of the forend, and overall mild wear. The wood is five with some dings and scratches, dry cracking on the recoil pad, and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is fair with broken sides and tears. A great opportunity to own a classic British sporting rifle!
