Documented Cased A.A. White Signed Master Factory Engraved Colt Factory Presentation Gold Inlaid Colt Python Double Action Revolver Inscribed to "The Father of Talk Radio" Barry Gray Offered here is a factory presentation Colt Python revolver embellished by Master Engraver A.A. White and presented to noted Radio celebrity Barry Gray (1916-1996). The revolver is pictured and described in Robert Lee and R.L. Wilson's "Magnificent Colts" on pages 400-403. The revolver features a floral scroll engraving covering 80% of the surface, "BG-1" flush gold inlaid on the right side of the frame and smooth grips with Colt Custom Shop medallions. The humorous inscription "CROOK CONTROL" is engraved on the muzzle. The left side of the grip frame is signed by White: "A.A. WHITE." The right side of the frame bears the presentation inscription: "To/Barry Gray/With Compliments of Colt Firearms." Barry Gray was a fixture on the radio airwaves for nearly half a century and is credited for creating the talk show format. He is often referred to as "The father of Talk Radio." Broadcasting from New York, Gray rarely shied away from controversial issues, including gun control. After interviewing noted Colt historian R.L. Wilson, Gray gained an interest in firearms and started his own Colt collection. Over the years Gray invited several gun right activists to be on his show. Wilson was a guest on several occasions. At the time of his death in 1996 Gray's obituary in the The New York Times noted that "he became radio's longest-running, highest-paid and most controversial interviewer, loathed and loved by his listeners." This revolver was presented to Gray at Colt Industries' corporate offices in New York. The revolver comes in leather bound case by Arno Werner. The top of the lid is embossed "TO BARRY GRAY/WITH COMPLIMENTS/OF/COLT FIREARMS."
