Desirable Fluted Cylinder Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver Manufactured in 1861 with the desirable fluted cylinder only believed to have been used on 4,000 revolvers in the 3-8000 serial number range. The cylinder has the matching serial number and the correct "PATENTED SEPT. 10TH 1850." The other components other than the grip also bear matching serial numbers. The barrel has the correct "-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.-" marking only used early in production. The frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the left. The frame and back strap have the correct cuts for mounting a shoulder stock. Frames adapted for stock mounting are much less common on civilian Colts. The grip is a replacement with bonded panels instead of a one solid piece. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1860 Army BBL: 8 inch round Stock: Gauge: 44 percussion Finish: blue/casehardened/silver Grips: walnut Serial Number: 2044 Class: Antique Condition: Very good. The trigger guard retains 40% of the original silver plating which has taken on a near black aged patina. The exposed brass is fairly bright with mild patination. The other components have an attractive mottled blend of gray and brown patina throughout, patches of light pitting, and several groups of small dings and scratches on the edges. The slightly undersized grip is very good and has light scratches, minor chipping at the toe, and some small dings. Mechanically excellent and crisp markings. Given that only 4,000 fluted cylinder Model 1860 Army revolvers are believed to have been manufactured, and the fact that a large number would have been used and destroyed in the Civil War, this is a very rare Colt revolver well-suited for a Colt or Civil War collection.
