New-York: Printed and Sold by George F. Hopkins, 1802. In two volumes. Second edition (Revised and Corrected). 8vo. viii, 317, (1, errata); v, (iii), 351 pp. (some erratic pagination in first volume). Full contemporary speckled calf, remnant of original spine label on first volume, front boards of each volume detached, rear boards of each volume separated but just holding, spines dry, boards and extremities scuffed and worn, small paper labels at foot of each spine; all edges trimmed; front free endpapers detached with boards; contemporary ownership signatures at front of each volume; scattered spotting and soiling to text. Howes H-114; Sabin 23981; Shaw & Shoemaker 2218; Reese, The Federal Hundred 19

Second edition of The Federalist in a contemporary binding, the last edition issued in Alexander Hamilton's lifetime. This edition is revised and corrected with numerous additions, and contains a printing of the United States Constitution including the first 11 amendments, as well as Hamilton's series of essays penned under the name Pacificus. Significantly, it is the first edition to identify Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay as the authors, and what essays they had written. “Clearly written by Hamilton partisans, it gives more authorial credit to Hamilton than modern scholarship cedes him” (Reese).
