Rare, Excellent and Well Documented Colt King Sight Co. Shipped First-Series Woodsman Target Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter and Box Manufactured in 1940. Equipped with a King vent rib sight conversion kit with adjustable blade front and target rear sights, marked "COLT KING SUPER TARGET" on the left side of the rib, patent number on the right side and "KING" followed by the patent number on the left side of the rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "THE WOODSMAN" and the left side of the slide "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL. 22 LONG RIFLE" followed by the Rampant Colt. Features a barrel weight tube, serrated trigger, blue Colt Woodsman marked magazine and fitted custom walnut grips with smooth sides and checkered heel and toe. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 6 to D.W. King Sight Co. in San Francisco, Ca. on July 19, 1940. Comes with a hinged lid black box with correct end labels, serial number penciled on the bottom, sight screwdriver, cleaning brush and papers. About an 1/8 of an inch of the breech end of the weight tube appears to have flaked off or was not completely finished at the time the conversion package was installed. The is a minor scuff and some light scratches on the tube as well. The grips are excellent with only light handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with the front flap of the lid separated (in the box), and some corner and edge wear.
